Brief contents of the paper
(1) A novel sulfate-reducing bacterium (SRB) was obtained from the terrestrial deep subsurface environment in Horonobe, the northernmost part of Hokkaido, JAPAN.
(2) A novel species Desulfovibrio subterraneus sp. nov. with the type strain HN2T was proposed.
(3) This SRB was found to utilize iron oxide, manganese oxide and humic substances analogue as well as sulfate as terminal electron acceptors.
